Rentrée Solennelle du Barreau de Lille, 19 octobre 2018

FBE, represented by Monique Stengel, took part in the “Rentrée Solennelle du Barreau de Lille”, on 19 octobre 2018

The conference began with a presentation of Mr. Basile Ader, Vice-Dean of Paris and President of the OIAD (Observatoire International des Avocats en Danger). This international Observatory was initially founded in 2015 by the Conseil national des Barreaux (France) the Paris Bar, witt Consejo General de la Abogicia Espanola and the Consiglio Nazionale Forense Italiano. The video presentation showed the – too long – list of countries where lawyers are in danger: persecuted, arrested, faltered, killed…. The audience was very impressed as we were also shown the faces of the colleagues in danger….

After a tribute to  the colleagues of the Bar in Lille who died since the last Opening, the Dean, Mr. Dhonte,  made a very energetic speech  about the difficulties of the profession in front of a representative of the French Mnistery for Justice. The Dean also spoke about the chances for the profession, specially in Lille as the conference was placed in the rooms of “Eurotechnologies”: ancient industrial buildings transformed in offices for new technologies.

Afterwards the two winners of the eloquence contest presented a mock trial as prosecutor and defender of Claude Lelouch, the well known French director who was present and finally presented a brilliant defence of his whole work!

The Ceremony was closed by an artistic tribute to Mrs. Simone Veil who died this year and was given a national funeral in Paris.

Rentrée Solennelle du barreau de Versailles, 12 octobre 2018

FBE, represented by Monique Stengel, took part in the Solemn Opening of the Bar in Versailles.

After the very touching tribute to the colleagues who disappeared in the last year, Mrs. Blanchard-Masi, Dean of the Bar, gave a report about the difficulties but also about the positive actions for the profession in France. French Lawyers  meet the same difficulties as all lawyers in Europe, specially with the new technologies and the defence of rule of law.

At this ceremony were invited the Deans of the twinned Bars of Versailles: Quebec, Cracow and Arges in Romania.

During the event,  colleagues member of FBE from Florence, Luxembourg, Cracow, Belgium as well as representatives of French Bars, met together.

Young Bar Association of Leuven – Opening ceremony of the Legal Year 2018 – 2019 – Leuven, 5–6 October 2018

FBE was invited by the Young Bar Association and the Bar of  Leuven to participate to the annual Openings Conference. Monique Stengel was the FBE representative. Il was a very nice opportunity at the place of one of the oldest colleges in Europe and in Belgium to meet young lawyers as well as representatives of different Belgian Bars and other countries Bars. After a conference about very actual topics as the role of biology and identity in family law, a sumptuous reception on the topic “Gatsby” took place, perfectly organised by the Young Bar. Young lawyers future member of FBE?

Second International Conference about « Healthier societies fostering healthy organisations: A cross-cultural perspective » – Florence, 01.09.18

At the end of the International Summer season of the University of Florence it was held the Second International Conference about « Healthier societies fostering healthy organisations: A cross-cultural perspective ». FBE was invited and president Lucherini gave a lecture on the Concept of Human
rights, their evolution in a cross cultural view. Special focus was dedicated to Human Rights and protection of the environment, recalling the United Nations Guide Principals.

50ème anniversaire du barreau congolais – Kinshasa, 9-10 juillet 2018

Il s’est tenu à KINSHASA le 50ème anniversaire du barreau congolais. Le congrès avait pour thème « La profession d’avocat et l’état de droit ». Au nom de la FBE, la vice-présidente Dominique Attias a souligné le rôle des barreaux dans la préservation de l’importance de l’état de droit et de l’indépendance de la profession qui doivent être garantie par les barreaux.

FBE-ICCBA Affiliation Agreement – Den Haag, 29.06.18

During the ICCBA’s Annual General Assembly, ICCBA (International Criminal court Bar Association) and FBE signed an Affiliation Agreement. The Agreement lays the foundations for close cooperation between the two organisations with the aim of working together on future projects.

Closing Legal Year – “Let’s Get Digital” – Den Haag, 29.06.18

The Closing of the Legal Year, celebrated by the Bar of The Hague, was organized from June 21 until June 29, 2018. These closing-celebrations are organized since 1947. The theme of this year’s congress was ‘Let’s get digital’, an afternoon about the digital challenges the legal profession faces.

At the Dean’s concert, the Grammy-award winning collective ‘Ludwig’ played Schubert, Vivaldi and Glenn Miller.

FBE-President Michele Lucherini met Bas Martens, former dean of the Hague Bar and representative to the FBE, visited the Gala on the top floor of Binck 36, a former industrial building for the postal services. A memorable evening with live music and cabaret.

Résolution relative aux droits des femmes, proposée par la Commission des Droits de l’Homme de la FBE, – Varsovie, 22.09.2018

L’Assemblée générale de la Fédération des Barreaux d’Europe (FBE), représentant 250 barreaux d’Europe et comptant 1 million d’avocats membres, qui s’est réunie à Varsovie le 22 septembre 2018, a exprimé sa vive inquiétude quant à la situation actuelle des femmes dans le monde.

La Fédération des Barreaux d’Europe rappelle l’existence de la Déclaration universelle des droits de l’homme, qui comprend quatre principes, six droits et six obligations réaffirmant le droit de tout être humain de vivre dans un monde dont l’avenir n’est pas compromis par le manque de responsabilité envers le présent.

Reconnaissant l’engagement des avocats en raison de leur rôle privilégié dans la société ainsi que leur contribution aux droits humains et sociaux, qui représentent le cœur de la mission des avocats, nous apprécions en particulier l’engagement et le travail sans relâche de toutes les avocates dans ce domaine, en particulier les actions et activités de notre collègue SAMAR BADAWI, qui lutte activement pour les droits des femmes en Arabie saoudite.

Résolution relative aux droits de l’Homme en Turquie, proposée de la Commission des Droits de l’Homme de la FBE – Varsovie, 22/09/2018

L’Assemblée générale de la Fédération des Barreaux d’Europe (FBE), représentant 250 barreaux d’Europe et comptant 1 million d’avocats membres, qui s’est réunie à Varsovie le 22 septembre 2018, a exprimé sa vive inquiétude quant à la situation actuelle des juges, procureurs, avocats et journalistes en Turquie.

Conformément à la position que nous avons toujours adoptée, nous, la FBE, demandons fermement que cessent l’arrestation, la détention et la poursuite arbitraires des juges, des avocats et des journalistes.

Nous demandons à nouveau que les représentants de l’État cessent de recourir à la torture et aux mauvais traitements et qu’une enquête soit menée sur ces crimes.

Nous exigeons la protection pleine et entière de l’indépendance des professions juridiques et journalistiques en Turquie et le respect des droits de l’homme des juges, des avocats et des journalistes et apportons notre appui sans réserve à nos collègues en Turquie.
