38th Conference of the Presidents and Chairmen of the European Bars in VIENNA : DIGITAL STRUGGLE
The Conference of the Presidents and the Chairmen of the European Bars is a major event in the calendar of the profession in Europe.
The 38th Conference took place on Friday 12th February 2010.
The Austrian Bar had provided the following theme : "From the Rule of Law to a society under surveillance ?" The main speakers were :
Mr MORTEN KJAERUM, Director of the European Agency for Fundamental Rights,
Professor TRETTER, Professor at VIENNA University,
Mr BURSTMAIYR, lawyer and member of the VIENNA Bar.
After having provided legal and factual information, a proposal for a resolution was debated about protecting citizens from this electronic surveillance, which an abuse of terminology often presents as form of protection. It was Dr Gerhard BENN-IBLER, the President of the Austrian Bar, who opened and concluded the session.
