On 18th December 2009 took place the traditional ceremony of the "Rentrée" of the Bar of Lyon. The second largest Bar in France welcomed numerous European and foreign barristers during the 17th December meeting of representatives of French, European and world Bars.
They could discuss ways of practice for young lawyers in Europe and the disparities in their legal status and economic conditions. They could also deal with specialisation as a truly European issue, though it does not exist in every country.
Of course, new technologies were discussed, notably by Simon WESL who explained the conclusions of the book "The end of Lawyers ?"
Finally, possibilities for changes in the profession through new tools and new procedures were raised.
These meetings anticipated the speech given by the President of the Lyon Bar, Remi CHAINE, who has firmly committed himself to the modernisation of French Bars and of his Bar. The Bâtonnier CHAINE endeavoured to recall the battles fought during his presidency, particularly those concerning the administration of the profession and the creation of new tools such as the countersignature of documents by a lawyer.
