Dear Colleagues, dear friends
There are only a few days left to register for our next congress in Madrid (September 22 - 25, 2010). Mr Christos ROSAKIS, vice-president and judge of the European Court on Human Rights as well as Mr David THÖR and Bjorg WINSSON, both judges at the European Court on Human Rights, will speak about the role of the lawyer and of the bars in implementing the right to a fair trial, according to the European Convention of Human Rights.
I am very happy that these high judges are among the speakers at our next congress and I kindly invite you to profit from the occasion to hear their reports.
Furthermore, I would like to inform you that the European Bars’ Federation (FBE) undertook the initiative to draft and sign a petition, together with AIJA (Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats), CCBE (Conseil Communautaire des Barreaux Européens) and UIA (Union Internationale des Avocats). In this petition the four in-ternational lawyers’ organisations demand that the Iranian authorities renounce all intention to execute Mrs Sakineh Mohammadi ASHTIANI, who’s alleged confessions were based, according to her lawyer on torture.
The declaration demands that Mrs Sakineh Mohammadi ASHTIANI be given a new fair trial in the presence of international observers. You find the declaration here in French and English.
I am most grateful if you distribute this declaration in particularly also with the authorities of your country and support the declaration strongly. I am looking forward to see you hopefully soon in Madrid.
Mirko Rŏs President European Bars’ Federation
