At its autumn congress in Frankfurt am Main, the FBE Human Rights Commission declared its support and appreciation for the crews of the Global Sumud Flotilla. The crews include doctors, lawyers, clergy, artists, humanitarians, organisers and seafarers- who believe in human dignity and the power of nonviolent action.
In recent months, the FBE Human Rights Commission has closely monitored the growing problem relating to the situation in Palestine.
The FBE Human Rights Commission supports all actions that oppose the resolution of disputes through the use of weapons or the taking of hostages, and attitudes that support the elimination of such actions.
1. Considering the Global Sumud Flotilla to be a humanitarian mission aimed at preventing the starvation of children and vulnerable people in Gaza, and the numerous drone attacks carried out against the ships;
2. Considering that these attacks have violated and continue to violate international conventions and the 1982 Montego Bay Convention,
We decide to continue this support and invite all our members of the FBE Bar Association to join us in this.
We call on all authorities, also in accordance with the 1999 UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, to oppose the violation of human rights and the principles of the rule of law committed against the crews of the Global Sumud Flottilla
